One Proudest Mommy Moment

When it comes to parenting, I'm not really the hands-on type. I am a working mom and sometimes work gets in the way and you leave it all to the yaya to do some of the roles that a mom should portray --- like for instance, being the tutor. Yep, I'm guilty as charged when it comes to assisting Alex review her lessons and study for an exam. I'm just happy to have a yaya is also smart enough to teach Alex although I am a bit worried especially when it comes to pronunciations and some things that the yaya may not be knowledgeable about.

Well, I got the biggest surprise of my life yesterday when my daughter Alex received 3 medals and another recognition during their graduation and recognition rites. She got the Silver Medal for Academic Excellence, Best in Logic and Best in Reading. On top of these 3 medals, she also received a certificate of recognition for being a Remarkable Reader. It was one proudest mommy moment indeed! However, I was disappointed because the husband wasn't there to witness the moment...talk about the right timing of going out of town (work calls!).

Going back to the graduation rites...these schools really have a way of making us parents proud and sometimes lead us to tears because of overflowing happiness. I almost cried when the graduates sang Nikki Gil's song "Glowing Inside"...

They're filled with joy
Because you're there for me
You cast my fears away
You wipe those tears
You gave me strength each day

I thank you for the glow
And thank you for the joy
Thank you for the love you give to me
I'm glowing, glowing insideWith your love shining through
Thank you for everything you do
I'm glowing inside because of you

The graduates also presented a dance tribute to their parents and it's such an amazing feeling seeing your daughter on stage oozing with confidence. Alex has always been a performer and every time she's on stage, she never fails to surprise me and make me proud. I just wish that she'll continue to have that passion for her studies and at the same time maintain a sense of balance by cultivating her creative side. If I may say, the genes may have contributed to the talent and intelligence but it's all up to Alex to really strengthen and utilize what she has.

In two months, she will be BIG school and I know it will be a new horizon for her, a new journey, a new environment but as her parents we will always be there to support her.
